Are you planning to visit one of the countries where the first language is Spanish? Or maybe you are just passioned about Spanish and want to improve your skills? If you do,  you are in the right place, because today we will talk about « Dynamic Spanish ».  It seems that virtual reality doesn’t know any limits and it surely has a huge range of potential uses that continue to shape the society we live in.

What is « Dynamic Spanish »?

Have you ever heard of David Kolb‘s (American psychologist) theory of experiential learning? I haven’t until just recently and this theory is obviously based on experience. Its official definition states that it is “the process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of experience. Knowledge results from the combinations of grasping and transforming the experience.”. Dynamic Spanish is thereby  a surprising VR project and a virtual reality language learning course that aims to make people learn a new language in an immersive way.

Who came up with this idea?

Morning Calm Productions is the indie media company founded by Dave Sobell and Katie Pascoe, two British people settled in Spain, who in 2017 started to develop Dynamic Spanish, after buying an Oculus Rift. Their creative project was brought to life thanks to Kickstarter.

How does this project work?

First,  people are immersed in a classroom where they are taught by the best teachers and where they can afterwards practice their speaking and listening skills. But that is not all, because once prepared, Dynamic Spanish takes them in the heart of Spain to gain a cultural insight in a  360° setting and to encounter situations like: asking for directions, introducing yourself to the people you meet, speaking about your interests and ordering food.

Also, the creators of this project said: ”Dynamic Spanish simulates that experience in a surprisingly realistic way, with real people asking you real questions and waiting for your reply! First you’ll prepare by learning and practicing your speaking and listening skills in a fully immersive classroom before you step out onto the streets of Spain to playfully engage in role-play based encounters.”

What do I need in order to be immersed in this Spanish experience?

You can have this authentic experience through lots of devices including  Oculus Go, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive,Google Cardboard, PSVR and Windows VR headsets.

All in all…

Dynamic Spanish is an awesome way to be immersed in the Spanish culture and to prove people that Cervantès’ problematic language can be learned in such a funny and engaging way. It also shows the fact that virtual reality is the future of a high quality education, ready to take you in places you have never been before.
