During his opening address at F8, Facebook’s developer conference, Mark Zuckerberg has pointed out that the goal for Facebooks VR department in the next decade is the creation of a VR/AR device that will resemble a simple pair of sunglasses.

The form factor is going to keep getting smaller…eventually we’re going to have normal looking glasses that can do both virtual and augmented reality…at that point expensive items, like televisions, will be one dollar apps in an app store.

The glasses will be the the result of a decade of improvements brought to the current version of the Oculus Rift. We are glad that Facebook set this goal and it is interesting that the giant sees at some point in time a merger between the two apparently distinct technologies. Facebook definitely has the resources to do it and the glasses certainly are more practical than the current VR headsets.
